Welcome to the site for ICN2014 in Sapporo, Japan
Since hosting the first International Congress of Neuroethology in Tokyo in 1986, Japan has played a significant role in the history of the International Society of Neuroethology. Many of the young Japanese attendees of the first ICN have become leading scientists across the world, and to this date, Japanese membership comprises the third largest contingent of the society, following the U.S.A. and Germany. Twenty-eight years later, we hope that the 11th ICN in beautiful Sapporo will afford the same opportunity for today’s young scientists in Asian/Oceanian countries to become tomorrow’s leading researchers.
It is worth noting that every ICN subsequent to the first has been held either in Europe or in America. Today in Asian/Oceanian countries, however, we have rapidly growing populations of active neuroscientists/ethologists who can contribute to the neuroethology of the next generation. Holding the ICN2014 in Japan will provide the opportunity for many more researchers from countries such as China, Taiwan, Korea, India, Australia, and New Zealand to join us.
Why do we want to host ICN2014 in Japan? We want to create a new ‘hub’ for neuroethology. In addition to offering a comfortable meeting site and reasonable accommodation to you, we are ready to achieve two purposes:
1. To communicate with a wide range of related disciplines.
2. To stimulate young scientists, especially in Asian/Oceanian countries, to embark on a career in neuroethology.
